Ukraine is the biggest graveyard of Leopards and Abrams-What should Greece do to protect its tanks?

The question "is the era in modern warfare when tanks dominated the battlefield over" is of increasing interest to more and more military experts and is of course of great concern to army staffs around the world. We are sure that the Greek staffs are also thinking about the next day in tank combat history, especially given the popularity of drones.

The Lessons of the Russo-Ukrainian War

Nobody woke up one day and said "let's put an end to tanks and choose other platforms". Tanks began to be challenged during the Russo-Ukrainian War because of the huge losses. The Ukrainian battlefield became the graveyard of American Abrams, German Leopards and British Challenger. These are in fact the best main battle tanks in all of NATO and some of the most powerful in the world.

According to a recent report in Russia's The Moscow Times, Russia has lost 2,006 armored personnel carriers and armored fighting vehicles. So it seems that the problem is not only found in tanks, but also in other armoured vehicles. The heavier and bulkier a tank is, the more vulnerable it is on the modern battlefield. In terms of tanks, some suggest that Moscow lost more than 2,900 vehicles, although Kiev insists on 7,000 vehicles.

So both the Ukrainian and the Russian camps lose tanks and armoured vehicles by the "sack" on the battlefield. Kiev lost 140 tanks of NATO origin, 30 of which are German Leopard tanks.

Military industries around the world are developing countermeasures to protect tanks from enemy drones or anti-tank missiles, but no equipment guarantees sufficient protection. We have observed tanks with iron metal mesh, as well as tanks with electronic systems to disrupt the operation of drones.

But the fact is that the threats to tanks are constantly increasing, and so are the countermeasures to protect them. We would say that the Greek army needs to take steps to strengthen the armour of its tanks, but the truth is that it is not certain which such steps it should take. The Americans, for example, have been stagnant on this issue and are simply waiting to see what other lessons the fighting in Ukraine will teach them.

But it is certain that a way must be found to make tanks less vulnerable to modern warfare or their era will be extinct.
