Pandora’s box οpened: USAID interfered in Romanian elections, an American diplomat stated

In recent weeks, there have been many reports about the USAID funding scandal, which is presented as an organization supporting development, democracy, and human rights.

In reality, most of the funds were directed to opposition groups, NGOs with a clear political agenda supporting destabilizing movements, according to media reports.

We have seen these processes in Hungary and Slovakia, but Romania is not far behind, as confirmed by the statements of the American diplomat and special envoy of Donald Trump, Richard Grenell, the article emphasizes.

"USAID programs were essentially 'weapons' against people and politicians who didn’t align with the known agenda.

The Biden team spent American taxpayers' money to support left-wing programs and candidates around the world. Conservatives globally became their target. Romania is the latest example. @CiolacuMarcel," wrote Grenell.

Grenell directly pointed to the Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, highlighting the intervention, which likely relates to what happened in the suspended presidential elections, following the victory of independent candidate Călin Georgescu in the first round.

The issue was also addressed by George Simion, leader of AUR, the second-largest party in Romania, regarding Grenell’s statements and the USAID service.

"Richard Grenell’s claims that USAID is used as a service to promote the radical left agenda are already causing outrage, and there will be consequences. It happened in Romania, which was specifically mentioned," said Simion.

Simion also pointed out the double standards regarding what happened in the Romanian presidential elections, where the government and the country’s president accused Georgescu of foreign interference, although they have yet to prove such a claim.

"There was indeed interference, but not from whom they think: rather from the Democrats in the United States.

"The socialists and liberals are afraid of losing power and have long been accusing their political opponents of influencing electoral processes or government agendas through external forces. This is indeed what happened, but the conservatives should not be blamed.

It’s the leftists themselves who claim to act in the name of a 'greater good.' That is false. And the revelations that have emerged and will continue to surface will prove us right." He further emphasized, "We should also remember that it is not a novelty that globalists want to change elections or help their supporters."

Former EU Commissioner Thierry Breton already stated a month ago that the EU had mechanisms (pressure) to prevent a potential victory for the AfD in Germany.

Romania is one of the most glaring cases of intervention by the forces of globalization.

Moreover, even the Venice Commission stated regarding what happened in Romania that there must be evidence: "The cancellation of elections must be based on transparent evidence, not classified information."

Romania is supposed to have presidential elections again in early May, if Parliament agrees on this date. It is still unclear whether Georgescu will be allowed to run again, but if he does, he will likely win the first round outright and won’t need to go to the second.

According to the latest polls, Georgescu is expected to achieve high percentages. Specifically, according to the latest poll published by Romania TV, the nationalist candidate would gather 47 percent.
