Undoubtedly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is having a hard time these days convincing American and European lawmakers to provide Kiev with more economic and military aid, but it seems that his "Plan B" is working much better than the first one.
This plan essentially aims to rebuild the country's defence-industrial base, with the help of the West, of course.

Zelensky's "Plan B" becomes a reality
More specifically, and according to a new article in The EurAsian Times, the United States and the NATO alliance are facing significant shortages in their military stockpiles and as a result cannot continue to supply Ukraine with weapons at the same rate they have been doing for almost two years.
In addition to the military equipment shortages, leaders such as US President Joe Biden are also facing problems at the political level, as rival parties oppose continuing to support Ukraine with such costly aid packages.
Zelensky seems to be aware of the new attitude of the West, which is why he has announced that "Plan B" is becoming a reality. According to the latest interview with the Ukrainian president, this plan aims to create infrastructure in which weapons will be produced domestically for the Ukrainian army. This will give Kiev some alternatives in case Western supplies are completely frozen.
Although Zelensky had tried to rebuild the Ukrainian defence industry even before the Russian-Ukrainian war broke out in February 2022, his efforts did not bear fruit. Of course, after the outbreak of the war some steps were taken, mainly through foreign and private investment, volunteers, etc. and as a result Ukraine is now producing some useful tools for its armed forces, such as mortars, artillery ammunition, drones, armoured vehicles and missiles.
Currently official Ukrainian data suggest that about 500 Ukrainian defense companies are contributing to the Ukrainian military's struggle by increasing domestic arms production. Of these 500 companies, 70 are state-owned, more than 200 are private companies specialising in the production of unmanned systems, while as many more are private companies specialising in the production of various weapon systems and ammunition.
And now, with the assistance of Western and other countries, Ukraine's defence industry hopes to expand even further, since Kiev reported that recently more than 60 Ukrainian companies have signed contracts (e.g. joint production of weapons) with foreign companies, for example from the USA, Britain, France, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and even Turkey.
