Ukrainians admit the Russian advance in Avdiivka

More specifically, a rare admission was made by the Ukrainian New Voice, or rather the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which stated that "Russian troops have made little progress southeast and northwest of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region".

The US think tank analyzed geographic data, published on December 21 and 22 this year, which indicated that Russian troops advanced northeast of Opitny (southwest of Avdiivka) and northeast of Steponoe (northwest of Avdiivka).

The recent reports of the American Institute correspond with the statements of Russian war correspondents, who revealed that the Moscow army advanced 400 metres north-west of Steponoe along the railway and 150 metres towards Nevelskoye and Pervomaiskoye from positions in Vodyanoye (7 km south-west of Avdiivka).

Ukrainian and Russian sources report that hostilities continue near the city of Avdiivka itself, east of Novobakhmutivka and Novokalinovo, as well as near Steponoe in the industrial zone and near the Vinogradniki operation (south-east of Avdiivka). Finally, clashes also occurred in the settlements of Nevelskoye and Pervomaiskoye (south-west of Avdiivka).

The intensity of fighting in this sector of the front has not diminished at all.

In particular, the news was first reported by the Russian state news service RIA Novosti, saying that the upgraded version of the Pantsir-SM air defence system demonstrates increased efficiency compared to the original version. These improvements offer significantly extended detection, tracking and engagement ranges with targets, and the system is now said to be capable of intercepting small drones, guided artillery shells and high-speed ballistic targets.

The Pantsir-SM is an air defence system mounted on the chassis of a Russian military truck. It is armed with guided surface-to-air missiles, as well as 30mm double-barreled automatic cannons. The modernised version also features an advanced fire control system with state-of-the-art radar for target detection and tracking, which works in conjunction with an electro-mechanical array. The tracking range is up to 75 kilometres, while the interception range is 40.
