The first step, according to local media, is the opening of the nuclear power plant in Akuyu, and now plans to acquire nuclear submarines.
A report published on the Turkish defence website Savunma SanayiST refers to a national programme for the acquisition of nuclear submarines by Turkey in the medium term. In fact, the report refers to an earlier Turkish navy magazine 'Deniz Kuvvetleri Dergisi', which stated that Turkey will take its place on the chessboard among the countries using nuclear energy in the near future, and when the nuclear power plant in Akuyu comes into operation.
