The Russians are furious with the trip of US Secretary of State A.Blinken to Crete, where he met with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
They believe that the meeting's main menu was, among other things, the provision of artillery ammunition for Ukraine, due to the critical nature of the fighting on the front, and while the Russians are preparing for their major ground offensive.
"Blinken, during his visit to Greece on January 6, asked Prime Minister Mitsotakis for new arms supplies for Ukraine.
This is clear blackmail and the US Secretary of State gave Athens several days to respond," a Russian social network website reported.
The US has given Greece an ultimatum to supply arms to Ukraine
During a visit to Greece on 6 January, US Secretary of State A. Blinken asked Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to provide new arms shipments for Ukraine.
Mitsotakis received Blinken at his family home in Chania, Crete, where Blinken arrived from Istanbul after meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
The agenda of the talks included the Middle East crisis and Ukraine, as well as strategic cooperation between Greece and the US.
After the talks, the Greek Prime Minister's press service said that Kyriakos Mitsotakis and A. Blinken exchanged views on events in Ukraine,
"The US Secretary of State expressed his gratitude for the support Greece has provided to Ukraine from the very beginning," the statement said.
At the same time, according to local media, Blinken asked Mitsotakis to increase military aid to Ukraine.
Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the United States and other Western countries, including Greece, have been providing humanitarian, economic and military aid to Ukraine.
Last year, Greek Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos reported the transfer of a "large quantity" of weapons to Kiev.
"These included 122 BMP-1s with their ammunition, 60 Stingers, 17 thousand 155 mm artillery shells, etc. In August, Athens also decided to join a coalition of countries that train Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets," a Russian website reports.
In November, US authorities were to buy ammunition from Greece to send to Ukraine for $47 million.
Either way, Greece is again at the centre of the war in Ukraine, with the US asking us for ammunition for the Ukrainians, which is not the case with Turkey, which has immunity compared to other EU countries.
