Iran announced that it had struck the headquarters of the Israeli intelligence service in Iraq.
Attack on Mossad in Iraq
More specifically, and according to a new publication by the prestigious Reuters agency, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards have revealed that they attacked Israel's "spy headquarters" in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region of Iraq. The revelation was made through Iranian state media late yesterday, and added that the Islamic Revolutionary Guards also struck Islamic State targets in Syria.
The Iranians have allies everywhere in the Middle East. Yesterday's strike further heightens concerns about the extension of the war in Gaza, especially after US and British fire hit Houthi targets in Yemen in the previous days.
"In response to the recent atrocities of the Zionist regime, which have caused the deaths of commanders of the Guards and the Axis of Resistance ... one of Mossad's main intelligence headquarters in the Kurdistan region of Iraq was destroyed by ballistic missiles," the Islamic Revolutionary Guards said.
Reuters reports that it could not independently confirm the news, as Israeli officials have not yet commented on the matter.
However, it was known that Iran was looking for the right opportunity to retaliate against Jerusalem for the deaths of three members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards last month, including a retired commander of the group who contributed as a key military adviser.
Meanwhile, since Hamas attacked Israel's border areas on October 7, there have been several clashes between the Israeli army and the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah. In particular, during this period, more than 130 members of Hezbollah are said to have been killed by Israeli fire.
"We guarantee our nation that the offensive operations of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps will continue until we avenge the last drop of blood of our martyrs," the Guard said in its statement.
Strike against ISIS
In addition to attacking the headquarters of the Israeli Mossad, the Iranians revealed that "we launched a number of ballistic missiles in Syria and destroyed organizers of terrorist operations" in Iran, including members of the Islamic State (ISIS). Specifically, this strike took place northeast of Arbil, the capital of Kurdistan, in a populated area near the US consulate.
Although the US Department of Defense called the attack in Arbil "risky" it announced that there were no casualties or damage to US infrastructure.
