The Russian Defence Ministry is particularly concerned about the smallpox virus investigation conducted by US military experts, said Russian Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the ARVXP ( atomic radiological biological chemical warfare) force.
"The growing number of studies on smallpox viruses and other human-pathogenic smallpox viruses conducted by American military experts is of particular concern. " Kirillov said in a briefing.
He reminded that work with this virus is allowed only in two institutions, including the Center for Disease Control in the US and the state scientific center Vector in Russia.
However, despite the World Health Assembly ban, employees of the US Army's Infectious Disease Research Institute conducted aerobiological experiments using two strains of the variola virus.

"This situation clearly demonstrates the US administration's disregard for international biosafety standards. Such operations could cause a global epidemic emergency, as a significant portion of the population has become vulnerable to smallpox and other viruses as a result of the loss of population immunity.
An example is the pandemic of monkey smallpox and the increase in the incidence of cowpox virus in the world over the last 10 years," the Russian general said.
According to him, American researchers are showing a keen interest in the synthesis of orthopoxviruses. In 2017, they synthesized the functional genome of the smallpox virus.
At the same time, the possibility of artificial production of Lassa, Ebola, Marburg viruses, as well as coronaviruses pathogenic for humans, appeared.
"One of the most recent examples is the studies conducted at Boston University, where, as a result of targeted modification, where the COVID pathogen acquired a mortality rate of 80%, causing atypical neurological symptoms and severe lung damage in model animals." said Kirilov.
The risk of a virus escaping again is huge and humanity has already paid the price with the recent pandemic that has cost and continues to cost the lives of millions of people around the world.
The number and range of biological threats has multiplied since the construction of these facilities. The outbreaks of rare diseases that have rocked Ukraine in recent years were probably caused by routine leaks from these laboratories, and the trial modifications of biological warfare agents for the purpose of testing and improving them.
These are nightmare scenarios 'over' the planet and the European continent in general, which are entirely feasible involving experts and secret research of which we know little or no information about.
