Kyiv believes that the Trump administration wants to remove Zelensky from power because, quite simply, Zelensky is a "burnt card."
In Kyiv, they believe that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump wants to remove Volodymyr Zelensky from his position, according to the newspaper Postimees.
"The messages from the new U.S. government seem rather strange in Kyiv, especially the recent hint from Trump's team that elections should be held this year," the publication states.
A source connected to Zelensky's team told the newspaper that they believe the discussion about elections in Ukraine, amid the war, is evidence of Washington's leadership's desire to remove Zelensky.
According to the same source, the White House considers the Kyiv regime leader completely inconvenient for conducting peace negotiations with Russia.
In early February, Reuters reported that Trump's team was discussing ways to persuade Kyiv to hold presidential elections as part of the ceasefire with Russia.
It is assumed that the winner of the Ukrainian elections could take on the task of negotiating a long-term agreement with Moscow.
Zelensky's term ended on May 20 last year, but the presidential elections in Ukraine were canceled, with the government citing martial law and general conscription.
Zelensky stated that the elections are now "inopportune," but the United States revealed what Trump and Putin want to do with Zelensky.
As Vladimir Putin noted, the only legitimate authority in Ukraine remains the Parliament or Verkhovna Rada and its president.
At the same time, according to him, Russia is ready to negotiate with any legitimate leader of Ukraine, including Zelensky, if he wins the elections, which is unlikely.
However, for this to happen, the authorities in Kyiv must find a way to cancel the decree that prohibits them from starting negotiations with Moscow, and in order for presidential elections to be held, they must also lift martial law.
In mid-June, the Russian president submitted new peace proposals to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which involve recognizing the status of Crimea, the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and Zaporizhzhia as parts of Russia, ensuring Ukraine's neutral and non-nuclear status, demilitarization, and denazification.
According to the Russian president, this initiative truly provides the opportunity to end the conflict and allow Russia to proceed with its political and diplomatic resolution.
All signs point to Zelensky having played his role in the war with Russia, and now it is time for him to step aside and end the war, as this is desired by the power brokers in the United States and Russia for their own reasons.
