The Russians had already noted the "diversion" of the three Ukrainian armored brigades from the hot front in Donetsk, heading towards Kursk for several days.
In response, the Russians took all necessary precautions. When, this morning, the Ukrainian armored units began their offensive operations from the direction of Makhnovka, bypassing Chekarsaya Konopelka and moving towards Ulanok, aiming to reach Plekhov, they were ambushed.
"The Russian army repelled the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attempt to launch a counteroffensive in the Kursk region," said the Deputy Head of the Main Military Political Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces, Commander of the "Akhmat" special forces, Aptu Alaudinov.
"Today, the enemy made another attempt at a counteroffensive towards Kursk. The units involved in this area include the 11th Airborne Brigade, the 810th Marine Brigade, and the 'Veterans,'" said the Russian commander on Channel Five.
The Russian General Staff deployed infantry with portable anti-tank systems in four-man groups against the Ukrainian armored units, followed by armored combat vehicles and infantry, according to RIA Novosti.
The Russian army then struck Ukrainian positions with dozens of Ka-52M helicopters armed with anti-tank missiles in the Kursk area, causing a significant loss of life, as it was a Russian trap that was immediately activated.
"During a combat mission to support the Northern Group units, crews of the Russian Army Aviation, with Ka-52M helicopters as part of a mixed tactical group, launched an airstrike with air-to-ground missiles against personnel and armored vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk border area," stated the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The Russian air controller confirmed the destruction of all Ukrainian Armed Forces targets, the Ministry added.
According to Moscow, Russian troops repelled eight waves of attacks towards the settlements of Chekarskaya Konopelka and Ulanok in the Kursk region.
During the failed counteroffensive, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost more than 200 soldiers and approximately 50 systems, including eight tanks, five infantry fighting vehicles, one armored personnel carrier, 30 APCs, as well as three mine-clearing tanks, one bridge-laying vehicle, and other equipment.
As of 21:00 on February 6, 2025, all Ukrainian attacks have been repelled.
"Personnel from the 11th Independent Airborne Assault Brigade, the 810th Marine Brigade, the veteran volunteer formations, the ARBAT, as well as UAV operators from the Rubicon Advanced Unmanned Technologies Center, and the 40th Independent Marine Brigade, broke up the Ukrainian attacks, which were also halted with massive artillery fire," the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.
For the Russian Armed Forces, this attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces was not a surprise, as they had been preparing for it and had not launched attacks in that direction in recent days.
