Among the battle tanks, armored personnel carriers, and bulldozers that the army is using to dismantle the infrastructure in southern Lebanon, in order for the ground forces to advance, dozens of cement mixers have also been gathering at the site in recent days.
The Israeli army, which has been operating along the southern border of Lebanon since early October, has the primary goal of locating and destroying Hezbollah tunnels. Just yesterday, the IDF released footage of a tunnel measuring a total length of 800 meters, in which 30 members of the Shiite organization were residing, and besides the infrastructure, they also had supplies for a month.
So far, the IDF has announced that it has discovered and cleared more than 30 such tunnels within just five kilometers from Israel's northern border, which Hezbollah has been constructing in the mountainous regions of the area for decades. The Israeli army followed the same practice during its ground operation in Gaza; however, the destruction of these underground infrastructures in the north presents different challenges.
In Gaza, Israel chose to flood the shorter tunnels with seawater, effectively destroying them, while for the larger tunnels, specialized explosives units booby-trapped the entrances and exits and detonated them.
On the northern front, the orders are different due to the conditions. Israel is transporting thousands of tons of cement as it cannot destroy the tunnels with explosives – a very large amount of explosive material is required to blow up a structure beneath the rock – and it does not have the capability to flood them with water…
The IDF is effectively sealing these tunnels with cement, which is undeniably cheaper than explosives and simultaneously permanently dismantles the underground passages.
Large Hezbollah Tunnel Captured by Israeli Forces
The Israeli forces captured a large Hezbollah tunnel – the organization was preparing to invade Galilee from there.
It is worth noting that just yesterday, the Israeli forces made a crucial revelation by identifying the location from which Hezbollah was preparing to invade northern Israel. This specific tunnel, they reported, was used by Hezbollah's elite, specifically the special unit Radwan.
Specifically, it is a complex that includes 800 meters of tunnels where sleeping quarters, kitchens, command centers, food and weapon storage, and scooters for transportation were discovered.
All of this is believed to have served Hezbollah's plan to launch an invasion in the Galilee region of northern Israel. In these facilities, up to 30 men could even stay for a month without supplies.
The IDF forces seized the complex at the end of last week and found anti-helicopter missiles, mortar shells, rifles, and other ammunition. One of the agents had hidden in the shelter and was killed by the Israeli Air Force.
