The Russian Ministry of Defence has expanded and accelerated the training of new units, with an emphasis on infantry. The goal is to quickly send new troops to Ukraine to support the Kremlin's efforts to seize new Ukrainian territory.
New Order Every 27 Days
Prompted by geopolitical tensions in Europe, the Russian military is becoming stronger than ever. The Kremlin recently revealed its plans to create new armies, divisions and military regions. Russia is also closer than ever to a new wave of mobilisation of soldiers.
"Given all this, Russia's ability to train and quickly form new units is becoming a major threat to Ukraine," revealed the deputy chief of the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Service, Vadim Skibitsky.
According to him, the Russian military has developed new programs for training units, units which were recently created from scratch. He said it takes a total of 27 days to form a battalion, for example. In these 27 days, individual training, group training and interoperability training take place.
"27 days and one infantry unit is ready for use on the battlefield," the Ukrainian said in an interview with a Ukrainian TV channel.
As for the upcoming possible recruitment in Russia, Skibitsky believes that if recruitment in the country takes place, it will be done smoothly, not like in the autumn of 2022 when Russian military bases were filled with new soldiers due to poor organization.
"However, again with so many new recruits the quality of training will not be high. Many of the POWs we have captured are Russian soldiers who surrendered a few days after arriving at the front," the Ukrainian added.
The deputy chief of the intelligence service of the Kiev Ministry of Defence revealed that today the Russian army has 474 thousand soldiers deployed on Ukrainian territory. By the beginning of 2024, this number would reach 450 to 460 thousand men. So in recent months there has been an increase as a result of the arrival of newly created reserve regiments and the introduction of additional units within the Russian armed forces.
At the same time, the Kremlin has started to accelerate the training of other military specialties, such as tank crews, gunners, etc. Russia is now truly operating at the rhythm of war.
