According to a recent report by the Russian news portal Avia-pro, it was recently reported that attacks were carried out against Snake Island, a target that has not been attacked since the summer of 2023.
According to the Russian site's sources, the island appears to have been attacked by bombs equipped with conversion kits, i.e. kits that convert non-guided munitions into precision guided munitions. If this is true then it was most likely the Russians who bombed the site.
It is speculated that the renewed tension around Fidonisi is the result of the recent deployment of additional military units and surveillance assets of the Ukrainian armed forces in the island's territorial waters and airspace. The Ukrainians made these moves in order to gain full control of Fidonisi, as well as the wider area. These means, however, seem to have been seen by Moscow as threatening both to the Russian military in the region and to the security of the Crimean peninsula.
Let us remind you that Fidonisi has a certain strategic importance because of its location, which is west of Crimea, south of Odessa and east of the Danube River delta.
So far we do not know more details about the strikes and their impact on the island, but Avia-pro provided a relevant insight.
Has the MiG-35 appeared in Ukraine?
In other news, reported by Defence-Blog, it is said that the deployment of the Russian MiG-35 fighter in the ongoing war in Ukraine has been confirmed, according to statements by Sergei Korotkov, chief designer of the Russian United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).
The MiG-35 completed its maiden flight in 2016 and was unveiled in 2017. Currently, six pre-production models are being produced for the arsenal of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
"In light of current events, especially the war in Ukraine, the aircraft is already participating in all ongoing operations. Further test flights will be completed in the future, after which the Russian Defense Ministry will make its final decision," Korotkov said when asked if the Kremlin would start mass production of the aircraft.
According to Russian media, the MiG-35 is a state-of-the-art 4++ generation aircraft incorporating 5th generation fighter technologies. It was designed to operate in intense combat zones where dense enemy air forces operate. It was developed to engage air targets under all conditions, night and day, and strike both moving and stationary ground and surface targets, providing flexibility in combat scenarios.
