Russia plans to form a special-purpose submarine division carrying Poseidon nuclear-capable torpedoes as part of the country's Pacific fleet by late 2024 or the first half of 2025.
Such a message was received by the TASS news agency from a source close to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
In late March, Russia said the coastal infrastructure for the submarines that would carry the Poseidon torpedoes would be completed on the Kamchatka Peninsula, home to the Russian Pacific Fleet's nuclear submarine-based ballistic missile base.
"The decision to create a special purpose nuclear submarine division in Kamchatka was made. We are talking about December 2024 or the first half of 2025," he said.
Earlier, the General Director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Alexei Rakhmanov, announced plans to reduce the production time of nuclear submarines. It currently takes about seven years.
Armament for special submarines is also being prepared. So, recently the TASS agency, citing a source, said that the first batch of Poseidon torpedoes for the Belgorod nuclear submarine had already been produced. This means of destruction is also called the "Weapon of Crisis". It is believed to be impossible to intercept with anything.
The Belgorod submarine was delivered to the Russian Navy last summer. So far, it has no main gun on board and is undergoing trial operation as part of the Northern Fleet.
Foreign media reported that major components of Poseidon, including a nuclear reactor to give the torpedo its own power source, were successfully completed. The crew of the Belgorod nuclear submarine also completed tests with models of the torpedo.
Poseidon has its roots in Soviet plans under Joseph Stalin for a nuclear torpedo that could destroy the coast of the United States.
In a 2018 speech, Putin said the torpedo's range would be unlimited and that it could operate at extreme depths at speeds many times that of any submarine or other torpedoes.
Α squadron of 16 Su-35 fighters in Iran in the coming weeks
By the end of this month, Iran may receive a batch of 16 Russian Su-35 fighter jets. These fighter jets, Iran bought from the Russian side to strengthen its Air Force, while the delivery, it seems, is far from final, since according to various sources, Iran bought from Russia from 16 to 48 fighters Su-35.
The supply of Russian Su-35 fighter jets to Iran is a serious step towards strengthening the defense capability of the Islamic Republic, especially in the context of new threats from Israel and the United States. The delivery will likely be by long-range missiles, which would give Iran a significant advantage over American and Israeli F-22 and F-35 fighter jets.
Officially, the Russian side did not confirm the fact of deliveries of Su-35 fighters to the armament of the Islamic Republic of Iran, however, official Iranian sources confirmed this data, although the details of the agreement were not disclosed.
The Su-35 is a multi-role fighter-interceptor developed by Sukhoi. It is equipped with an advanced radar, optoelectronic target detection system and powerful engines that provide it with high maneuverability and speed.
The fighter can carry a variety of weapons, including air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, bombs and guided missiles. The Su-35 also features improved performance over previous Sukhoi fighters, including increased range and the ability to use a wider range of weapons.
