Canada lifted the arms embargo against Turkey in the last few hours, reports a Turkish media outlet. The reason this measure was initially imposed in 2020 was the transfer of Turkish military equipment to Azerbaijan during the conflicts with Armenia.

But now the government of Canada has announced that it has withdrawn the trade restrictions it implemented in 2020 on defense industry companies that wanted to export their products to Turkey.
The Canadian government's official website said the restrictive measures against Turkey are no longer in place.
In the said statement, the government reminded Canadian defense companies that the measure against Ankara had been implemented since April 16, 2020 and related to the ban on the export of defense products to Turkey. "Today the policy of rejecting such exports does not exist" was written on the website.
The Turkish media covering the news in question adds that after the embargo is lifted, the Canadian government will examine one by one the requests to export defense products to Turkey that are still in force. Such requests mainly concern the sale of ammunition to the Turkish armed forces, the report added.
Why Was the Embargo Implemented in the First Place?
Let's take the things from the beginning. The Canadian government has imposed an arms embargo on Turkey because of Ankara's support for Azerbaijan in the latter's illegal military operations against Armenians in 2020. These operations were called the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict and resulted in the deaths of thousands of Armenians, as well as and the usurpation of Armenian territory. The war started on September 27, 2020 and lasted 44 days.
A few days later the government of Canada seems to have acted decisively and in October of the same year announced its decision to impose an embargo on the export of defense products to Turkey. The reason seems to have been the use of Canadian technology inside Turkish unmanned aerial vehicles used by the Azeri army against Armenian positions.

Because of this anti-Turkish measure, Canadian companies are said to have lost between $250 and $300 million in contributions. At the same time, the Canadian company Telemus Systems also went bankrupt, its one and only customer was the Turkish company TAI.
Of course, we should emphasize that Turkey continues to openly support Azerbaijan and the Azeri army did not stop being aggressive against the Armenians, however the Canadians immediately decided to lift the embargo towards Ankara.
