A man banned from entering Moldova opened fire today inside Chisinau International Airport, killing two people, Russian news agency Ria Novosti reported.
An alarm has been raised at Chisinau International Airport after a foreign citizen shot two Moldovan citizens, one of whom is a Border Police officer. Law enforcement forces intervened and the man was arrested shortly after being wounded.
"We regret to inform the public that there are two victims of the attacker. They lost their lives while performing their duties while on duty. Authorities are restoring the situation in the area. The attacker will be held accountable by law enforcement agencies who have opened a criminal investigation file on this case. The investigation has already been opened by the General Prosecutor's Office. Commercial activity and flight arrangements at this time continue to be disrupted. During the intervention, the authorities took care to protect the citizens in the danger zone. The country's leadership was urgently informed of the situation," a press release from the Ministry of Interior said.
The press from the Republic of Moldova writes that the man who fired the shot was a Russian citizen and possibly a Wagnerian mercenary who had come from Turkey.
TV8 sources claim that the man who fired the shot was a foreign citizen from Turkey. Because he was not allowed to enter the country, he allegedly grabbed a border guard's gun and fired several times. The incident resulted in casualties.
"A few hours ago at Chisinau International Airport an incident occurred in which a firearm was used by a foreign citizen who was not allowed to enter the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The authorities confirm two victims. At this very moment, the special-purpose police brigade FULGER is intervening at the scene," the Ministry of Interior announced.
"All relevant state authorities are on the scene. We are working to bring the situation back to normal. Fighters of the special purpose FULGER police brigade managed to eliminate the attacker who killed two victims a few hours ago at the Chisinau International Airport. At this point the danger has been removed. The attacker was wounded and is receiving medical attention. Commercial activity and flight arrangements at this time continue to be disrupted."
