An announcement was made by the Israeli company Aeronautics, regarding the contract it signed with the Greek Ministry of National Defense, for the supply of dozens of Orbiter 3 unmanned aircraft systems.
The deal is part of a major contract between the Israeli and Greek defense ministries, worth around €370 million, for the supply of Rafael's Spike NLOS anti-tank missile systems.
The two systems are joined by the C4I 'Fire Weaver' system. Orbiter 3s detect and identify the target, while Spike missiles, launched from air, sea or ground, destroy the target. The fast "Sensor to Shooter" process that applies advanced technologies enables mission success.
What is the Orbiter 3
The Orbiter 3 is a small 32 kg tactical unmanned aerial system that provides superior performance for both defense and HLS applications. Highlights of Orbiter 3's operational performance include the ability to carry various types of 5.5 kg payload, advanced image processing, navigation in a non-GPS environment, and the ability to withstand harsh weather conditions. It can fly for 6 hours with a maximum speed of up to 130 km/h. It is launched by a catapult and uses a parachute to land.
"We are proud to be part of this important collaboration with Rafael in the G2G (government to government) agreement with the Greek Ministry of Defense. This partnership demonstrates the technological synergy and close business integration between the two companies,” said Aeronautics Group CEO Dan Slasky.
