New provocations from our neighbors: A Turkish corvette approached our research vessels north of Crete

Another provocation by Turkey in the Aegean. The Turkish Navy corvette TCG Bartın once again harassed the research vessels "Ievoli Relume" and "NGWorker," located north of Crete.

This new provocation comes just 9 days after the harassment of the research vessels again in the Crete area (February 2, 2025).

The Greek Navy issued a new NAVTEX, announcing a maritime area north of Crete will be reserved from February 11 to February 13, 2025, for the installation of subsea cables in international waters.

However, Turkey seems to want to once again stir up tension and disrupt the "calm waters" of the Aegean, as it sent the Turkish corvette TCG Bartın again, which reached a distance of 20 miles from the two research vessels and harassed them, according to exclusive information from OnAlert.gr.

The area reserved by the Greek NAVTEX

Specifically, it sent a message via radio stating that the research vessels were illegally in an area outside Greek jurisdiction and called on them to stop the submarine cable laying operations.

At the location, a Greek frigate has already been deployed, just as it was last time, while the Turkish warship has not approached the two research vessels any further, which continue their operations uninterrupted in the NAVTEX area.
