The case of the first Turkish astronaut is highly visible in Turkey. It is a fact that Ankara and especially the Erdoğan regime has invested in this story in terms of communication and the statement by the communication director of the Presidency, Fakhretin Altoun, as broadcast by the state-run TRT, is indicative of this:
"The head of the Communication Directorate of the Presidency of the Republic Fahrettin Altun said that Turkey's first space traveler and astronaut Alper Gzeravji will perform various scientific missions on the International Space Station for 14 days.
In a post on his social media account, Fakhretin Altun noted that the vision of Turkey's Century has reached space.
After recalling that Turkey's National Space Program was announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in 2021 and in this context, work has begun on sending a citizen into space, Altun said:
"As a result of the considerations made, Alper Guzeravji became the first Turkish space traveller. Gezeravdzi will start his space journey tonight. Gezeravdzi will be sent into space to carry out various scientific missions on the International Space Station for 14 days. He will carry out 13 experiments in space that include studies from cancer to immune cells, from algae to propolis, which will contribute to the literature."
Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kajir said the journey and work of the first Turkish astronaut, Alper Guezeravci, would be a source of inspiration for young Turks.
In his written statement on Turkey's first manned space mission, Minister Kajir said he was happy, excited and proud.
Kajir shared that Guezeravci, the first Turkish astronaut who will travel to the International Space Station with the launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on the night between January 17 and January 18, will conduct 13 scientific experiments there and said:
"In this way, we will enter a new phase in the studies carried out by Turkish scientists in the field of space science. The Turkish astronaut will also be a source of inspiration for Turkish young people and children. We will continue to realize our goals in the National Space Program, which we have carried out under the leadership of our President, and undertake projects that will broaden the horizons of our beloved nation beyond the sky."
However, as Yeni Safak reported, "Turkey's space journey has been postponed.
The space journey of Turkey's first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı has been postponed until tomorrow evening. Gezeravcı's space mission was expected to start at 00.49 on January 19, Turkey time (TSI). While it was reported that the trip was postponed due to a technical glitch, SpaceX made the first statement on the matter. The company said in a statement, "We are targeting Thursday for the Axiom 3 flight." While statements were made, it was reported that this postponement will allow teams to complete pre-flight checks and data analysis."
What is the corresponding Greek reality? Let's not discuss them because they only cause sadness...
