Turkey does not stop for a moment to operate on the basis of its revisionist doctrine, challenging Greek sovereign rights at every opportunity. There may be no eye-catching violations and air battles, enabling those who wish to "share" or find a solution to the confrontation with Ankara, as if it were Athens that is doing something illegal and must retreat, to talk about a period of recession, but the truth is very different in practice.
No lifting of the Casus Beli no retreat from the claims in the eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean.
Today at noon Ankara issued a NOTAM under which it blocked the area between Rhodes and Kastelorizo for the conduct of a search and rescue exercise from today, 9 January to the 11th of this month. A piece it is keen to wrest from Greece in half of the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean.
The NOTAM referred to a specific point from which the flotilla and aircraft alongside will have to keep a distance of 6 nautical miles.
Athens immediately reacted by issuing its own NOTAM in which it is stressed that part of the area that Turkey has reserved is under Greek jurisdiction.
Despite this, Turkey connected Greece with... "Cairo" and not only did Turkey not back down but a corvette of the Turkish coast guard moved normally for some time even within the area of Greek jurisdiction. This is the same Turkish Coast Guard corvette GUVEN that had tried to "fit" in the case of the SOS that had been declared by a cargo ship in Chios in the past year. Subsequently, the same Turkish vessel sailed for several days along the 25th meridian in the Aegean, trying to give flesh and blood to Turkish attempts to partition the Aegean.
The unfortunate thing is that even as these lines are being written, that is at 19:20 on Tuesday afternoon, the Turkish corvette Guven continues to make the Greek search and rescue area of jurisdiction a sieve, writing the Greek NOTAM on the oldest of its shoes and without any reaction from the Greek coastguard in the altar of maintaining...calm...
The course of the corvette of the Turkish coast guard can unfortunately be followed in real time and in the application marinetraffic...
It is worth recalling that Turkey made a similar "game" with Search and Rescue on the day of Epiphany and again in the same area between Rhodes and Kastelorizo, while last December they proceeded to blockade 5 areas in the Aegean Sea from north to south from 22 December 2023 to 16 January 2024.
The conclusions are yours...
