Panic and anger are the two main feelings that possess the Turkish elite, mainly for the strategic upgrading of Greece, as an advanced base of the alliance "on the way to the Black Sea and Russia".
A minority newspaper citing an article from "Το Vima" and the Greek press reports that "the USA is quietly building a new modern "Incirlik Base" in Larissa, essentially showing their intentions towards Turkey.
Journalist Ilhan Takhsin emphasizes that a second "Incirlik-type base" is being secretly implemented in Larissa, essentially to control Turkey and its actions in two huge maritime areas.
"The US is building under the utmost secrecy a huge electronic warfare surveillance control center from the Balkans to the Middle East in the city of Larissa in the Thessaly region of Greece," the minority newspaper reported.
This center will be jointly controlled by the Greek Armed Forces, will have accommodation, administrative buildings, a power production center with generators that will provide energy independence, an air defense system, for the deployment of aerial refueling aircraft, and will be connected to the US attack helicopter base in Stefanovikeio of Volos.
In fact, already American unmanned aerial vehicles are landing in Larissa after their mission in the Black Sea. A satellite image control center with radar systems is also being built to control every movement in the Aegean.
Larissa will become one of the largest US bases in the SE Mediterranean
Recently as we reported, US MQ-9 Reaper drones have landed at the newly upgraded Larissa Air Base as US military officials monitor NATO's southern and eastern borders.
Work on the base near the "eastern shores of the Aegean" continued through most of 2022.
New maintenance shelters, ramps and taxiway extensions were planned to be included, with a $21 million local construction contract to be completed in the final weeks.
In fact, at the beginning of 2023, the first of the new hangars being built at 110 AM is expected to be delivered, while corresponding infrastructure is also being created at the "neighboring" Air Force Base, in Stefanovikio.
Their development was authorized under amendments made to the US-Greece Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement (MDCA) dating back to 1990.
Among the changes, most recently agreed upon in 2021, Washington is now allowed to carry out at both Larissa Air Base and Stefanovikio Air Force Base the following missions: operation, maintenance and support of US maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft, some technical ground processing, as well as airlift and logistics support, including tanker aircraft.
The "eye" of the American Pentagon will control the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean, both in the context of the mining of American giants in the Eastern Mediterranean, and in the control of the Aegean "on the way to Russia", and this angers Turkey, which has always its own goals in the area.
