As has been known for days, on Thursday March 09, 2023, a presentation was made to Army General staff by representatives of the RHEINMETALL ELECTRONICS company, regarding its proposals for the "digital" Brigade and the SAPHIR X thermal periscope.
These are proposals by the Germans of RHEINMETALL regarding the creation of a Greek "digital" Armored Brigade, whose weapon systems (TOMA-battle tanks-Armored vehicles) will be equipped with state-of-the-art command and control systems and will be interconnected, giving a live image to the command center of the formation.
This capability would dramatically increase the capabilities of a Brigade-level military formation, enabling all means of communication with the command center, and by extension, during combat operations with the Air Force and helicopter units.
The German company's proposal is related to state-of-the-art command and control systems, superior to the HNIOHOS I and II already installed on Greek tanks in a specific unit.
Now the German experts are offering us command/control systems that will interface artillery, TOMA and armored vehicles, Transport, Engineer vehicles and Army Air Force helicopters, along with drones.
This is an unprecedented improvement at the level of an Armored Brigade, which will give the commander a live full picture of all forces, means and personnel, to achieve the objective, which is the enemy.
Especially in the Evros area, it is more imperative than ever to create this "digital" Brigade, so that we can repel any Turkish infiltration attempt, especially on the land part of our Greek-Turkish border.
The commander-in-chief of this Greek Armored Brigade, will be able to launch a truly formidable firepower against the "neighbors" for example (now we have a honeymoon period which will pass by the moon), controlling on the ground all his weapons systems, while above them he will they fly in combination Apache AH-64 attack helicopters, which will launch Helfire missiles against enemy targets.
Features of the new system of the German Company
The bottom line is that in real time information will be collected from Greek Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and coordinates of enemy units will be given immediately, directly to the crews of tanks, self-propelled artillery systems and TOMAs, in order to immediately target the enemy mass.
At the same time, the staff of the Greek "digital" Brigade will have a comprehensive understanding and picture of the tactical situation at all levels, and will be able to give appropriate orders in all directions.
The German company Rheinmetall also presented the latest generation SAPHIR X thermal periscope, which is proposed for the upgrade of the Leopard-2A4 and Leopard-2A6 tanks of the Hellenic Army (ΗΑ).
We hope that this General Staff plan will be implemented as soon as possible, to give us a Brigade-level operational formation, capable of any available adversary, who will want to try any provocation against the Greek border.
