Alexandroupoli was once again at the center of global interest, with the visit to the area of 5 top Ambassadors, headed by the US Ambassador to Athens, George Tsounis.
According to the column "Vimatodotis" of the newspaper "Vima", five ambassadors of the USA, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine, namely the Greek-American Mr. Tsounis, accompanied by the Ambassador of Bulgaria Valentin Poriazov, the Ambassador of Moldova Andrei Popov, the Ambassador of Ukraine Shutenko Sergii and the Charge d'Affaires of the Romanian Embassy, Adriana Ciamba, visited the port to learn about the "vertical corridor". That is, the corridor that will connect Alexandroupoli with Ukraine, bypassing the Dardanelles.
This is an extremely important corridor, now with the developments on the Ukrainian front. There was also a ship in port, chartered by the Italian armed forces unloading war material. The ambassadors were informed that an American is expected to arrive next week, of those that usually come, the beasts, that load or unload tanks and helicopters.
The visit was not typical at all, reports the "Vimatodotis" column. They wanted to know everything even about LNG. At the port, however, they sat longer. They discussed the prospects for deepening cooperation in the fields of energy, economy, infrastructure, routes and networks connecting Greece with Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine.
The American ambassador George Tsounis made the table for them, in a tavern in Ai Giorgi. This time he met with everyone so that there would be no misunderstandings, like last time. This is how he met: With the regional governor, with the mayor and even with the metropolitan Mr. Anthimos. They said that they will come again, that the "vertical corridor" should go ahead, something that the European Union will help with.
The port of Alexandroupoli is day by day a station for foreign embassies. The other day, the Chinese ambassador in Athens also visited, declaring (in a diplomatic way) that he was particularly excited about the elegance of the city. During his visit he also met with the mayor Yiannis Zamboukis. The British have established a station in the area, as have the Italians and other NATO countries.
