That's another promissing airborn armored vehicle from Germany!

In 2021, a new airborne tracked vehicle was revealed in Germany, with the purpose to replace Wiesel 1. The new vehicle was named Luftbeweglichen Waffenträger or LuWa. The vehicle was built from ACS, FFG and Valhalla Turrets. Its development was finished in a short period of time. Although, right now it still undergoes tests. It's announced that the 30 year old Wiesel vehicle will receive upgrades until LuWa is fully operational. That doesn't mean Wiesel 2 armored vehicles will be replaced.

LuWa was designed to provide fire support for airborne troops. The vehicle can fit in the internal space of a CH-53 military helicopter. Germany is the only country that deploys such vehicles. Russia operates the BMD airborne vehicles, but they are much larger and heavier.

In its basic version, LuWa will be deployed as a reconnaissance vehicle or fire super vehicle. There is the Rheinmetall MLK 27mm cannon in the vehicle, a gun that has proved itself in the usage on aircraft, helicopters, battleships and other vehicles.

Due to its light weight, the vehicle isn't impressively protected. Its armor can protect the crew from light ammunition and rounds. LuWa was designed to take advantage of its mobility and speed to avoid enemy fire. The vehicle also features the NBC protection system. Last, LuWa can carry a variety of different missiles like the anti-tank Spike LR-2.
