Taifun is a Russian armored vehicle designed to withstand explosions from mines and other devices. The mine resistant ambush protected vehicle was started developing in 2009 as an experiment vehicle for transporting troops and cargo. It's similar to the German Wisent, but it has armor that provides greater protection. Taifun entered service in 2014 and reports stated that the first 50 unites were delivered in 2015. Of course, it was offered to export customers. Some of its recorded missions were operations in Syria and Turkmenistan.
One of the two prototypes was modular. The second module unite can be changed, so the vehicle can perform as a reconnaissance, fire supper, escort and command vehicle. Although, it can operate in many other roles too. It can even be deployed as an ambulance.
Its armor is steel with an extra composite armor. It is believed that the armor of the cabin and the modular unit can withstand 14.5mm ammunition. Of course, it can survive mine explosions in its rear part, equal to 8kg TNT. The NBC systems is featured on the vehicle too.
The vehicle doesn't feature any weapons except for an optional weapon station with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun for defense purposes.
The infantry troop carrier module have enough space for 16 soldiers, that can enter or exit the vehicle from back doors or a roof hatch. The cabin has space for the driver and one passer.
