5. GAZ Tigr
The GAX Tigr is a Russian vehicle with high mobility that is being produced since 2005. Its main role is to develop reaction units, escort convoys, and do patrols.
4. UAZ-469
Another Russian one, UAZ-469, was revealed in 1973. The vehicle is being used by more than 70 countries worldwide and more than 2 million were built. The improved version UAZ Hunter is being produced today.
The vehicle can carry up to 800kg of cargo or 6 passengers and 100kg of cargo. Otherwise, it can carry up to 600kg of cargo and one passenger. It can also tow a trailer up to 850kg.
3. Mercedes-Benz G-class
The successful G-class of Mercedes-Benz couldn't miss the list. The vehicle is being produced since 1979 with only a few changes! Today is part of more than 60 countries worldwide.
The maximum cargo is around 500-1000kg, depending on the model.
2. Land Rover Defender
Land Rover Defender started production in the UK around 1990 and more than 8 thousand have been built. The vehicles are being constructed in other countries like Australia and Turkey. In 2016 the production was stopped as the company wanted to start developing a new Defender.
The vehicles were designed to transport troops, equipment like communication systems, and more. The basic version, General Service (GS) Defender, can carry up to 8-14 soldiers, depending on the model.
1. HMMWV
The American High Mobility Multipurpose Vehicle, or otherwise HMMWV, is the most common light utility vehicle in the world. In 1981 its production started and today, more than 160,000 have been built. The production is still ongoing.
There are more than 20 different versions of the vehicle, and due to its size, it's easy for it to be air transported from transport planes. It can also be transported by helicopter.
In 1996, the M1114 version had better armor, a bigger and more powerful engine.
This is the vehicle used by the Hellenic army. Overall, 700 are being used, including the Greek version M1114GR that is produced from ELVO with license.
