The submariners, or the Warfare Officer, are the eyes and ears of the submarine. That means that the exact officer controls the radars and communication systems of the submarine. The interesting part is that every submariner in the US Navy is a volunteer.
3. The numbers are crazy…
Even if the US has a population of 330 million people, only the US Navy has active personnel of 330k members. The 55k of them are officers.
4. The biggest flying boat!
The Martian JMS-3 Mars was revealed in the US Navy in 1938. The wingspan of the aircraft was almost 61 meters (200 feet) and accommodated a huge armory. In its time, Mars was the most feared airplane that existed.

6. Many women!
From the 55k officers of the Navy, the 12k are women. Besides the officers, there are many women in the remaining personnel too. In total, 20% percent of the Navy personnel are women!
7. The song of the naval academy isn't really 'modern'
The “Anchor's Aweigh” was written by Lt. Charles Zimmerman, the musical director of the academy, in 1906. The song is still being sung by students and members of the Navy.
8. Blue Angels
Blue Angels is a flight demonstration squadron of the US Navy. Every year, only 17 officers serve as volunteers for the squadron. This small number gives Blue Angels a lot of prestige!
9. Seabees
Seabees is the unit of the army that builds naval bases in the whole world. They may not be as famous as the Navy SEALs (not even close), but their services are very important. Their slogan is “we build, we fight”.
10. Dogs on the Navy
Seals are for sure not a part of the Navy SEALs, but dogs are. A lot of military dogs serve in the Navy after very demanding training that even consists of parachuting with their human partner!
