Underwater firearm are bullets designed for underwater operations. There are a lot of armies that own such ammunition that include bullets in spear style rather than ordinary design. These rounds are launched with the help of pressurized gas.
Such ammunition was design during the '60s (Cold War) as a part of frogmen's equipment.

Underwater guns shoot rounds that are called flechettes rather than ordinary rounds. Flechettes are steel rounds with vaned tail for a stable flight. The name comes from the French word “fléchette” that means “small arrow”.

One of the most difficult things on the whole concept, is to design rifles that can shoot both under and over the surface of the water. A good example is the ASM-DT amphibious rifle, that was adopted from the Russian Special Forces back in 2000.
The gun can shoot two types of ammunition: the 5.45x39mm for over the water usage and the 5.45x39mm MGTS rounds for underwater usage. The second are at least 120mm in length.
Of Course, such guns have a greater range and penetration than spearguns.
