Satellite images reveal the existence of a huge military area around the strategic Libyan city of Sirte. CNN claims that this will be the new military base of the Russian mercenary organization Wagner, also known as "Putin's private army".
"These actions concern both the Libyan people and Western observers, who are looking forward to the departure of foreign fighters from Libya. "Obviously this will not happen, at least on the Russian side, as the work near Sirte speaks for itself in strengthening Wagner's position," a Western intelligence official told CNN.
The Russian Wagner presence in Libya is the most extensive private military presence anywhere in the world.
The satellite images also show the work which impresses with the structure of the fortifications.
US experts believe that the primary purpose of the base is to prevent any military attack from the ground towards the city of Sirte.
It’s emphasized that the city is claimed by the Turks and in this part of the country the military conflicts are continuous and intense.
At the same time, the media serving the interests of Tripoli’s Government of National Accord (GNA), led by Fayez al-Sarraj, also published the works of the installation. They claim that this activity started at the beginning of the year.
According to US sources, the moat extends for at least 70 km and has more than 30 defensive positions. The photos show that this facility is located next to the main road to Sirte.
The US intelligence services are watching with interest and concern what is currently happening in the region. According to reports, there are currently no indications that Russian troops are moving to Libya.
The US intelligence service also claims that there has been intense activity and concentration of forces around and from the air base in al-Jufrah in recent days.
The same actions are observed in the south, around Brak airport, where several Russian radar systems are located.
At the same time, the information center in Langley reports that an entire naval facility has been set up in the Libyan port of Al-Homs, indicating that Turkey plans to remain in the region for a very long time.
The Turkish naval base will be the second after that of Misrata and aims to control the Libyan EEZ in which Ankara intends to launch investigations in the near future, according to information from the Libyan press.
