The French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle will be deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean and will even be accompanied by a Greek frigate to the battle team.
Obviously, given the events of recent weeks, especially with the Turkish provocations in sea areas claimed by Greece and Cyprus, the presence of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle in the eastern Mediterranean is a sign of Paris' solidarity for Athens and Nicosia.
The Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier will be deployed in the eastern Mediterranean and Indian Ocean in the first half of 2021, as part of the Chammal mission to Iraq and Syria, as the French Ministry of the Armed Forces announced in early January.
However, according to information, the mission is not only aimed at ISIS, but also at Turkey.
France is the only country that shows in practice that it supports our country, of course for its own interests.
As France's most important strategic weapon, no further details have been announced for security reasons, but military analysts point out that the departure is made with the aircraft carrier in "combat readiness", ie with a full war load that includes a number of Rafale fighter jets, flying radars and strategic weapons of maximum range, anti-submarine arsenal as well as the advanced electronic systems for detection, targeting and electronic interference developed by the French war industry with the special feature that there are no countermeasures available in any other country.
The French Minister of Defense, Florence Parly, stated, among other things, that the French Air Force will participate in exercises with the Greek Air Force, while the infamous aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle" will sail in the eastern Mediterranean, accompanied by a frigate of the Greek Navy.
In particular, France will participate:
- in the "SKYROS" drills, with the development of a long-range air force, which will include up to 170 pilots, four "Rafale", two A400M "Atlas" and one MTT "Phoenix".
- in the "INIOCHOS" drills organized in Greece from April 12 to 22 with four "Mirage 2000" and eight "Rafale" alongside the US Air Force, as well as forces from Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Italy.
An alarm has been sounded in Paris over Turkey's actions, as the French leadership is deeply concerned about a heated incident in the Aegean and southeastern Mediterranean, as a result of turkish provocations and extreme aggression.
"In matters of defense, Greek-French relations have reached their highest level in a decade, as evidenced by the approximately twelve ministerial meetings and the visit of the French head of the General Staff to Greece in 2019. Important elements of the strategic partnership as mentioned in last January at a meeting between the French president and the Greek prime minister, have already been implemented, in particular between our armed forces. Of course, we continue to work on this issue so that we are ready to formalize it as soon as possible. "
