Russian expert on Erdogan's visit to Greece: Conflict in Turkey between Westerners and anti-Westerners with NATO bases as the prize

Russian expert Stanislav Tarasov spoke about Erdogan's visit to Athens and revealed the battle between NATO and anti-NATO forces inside Turkey:

Question: Recently, Erdogan visited Athens, where he signed a declaration of friendly relations and good neighborliness with Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis. In this way, they actually outlined their common interests as NATO partners.

Does this indicate that Turkey is going to leave the alliance?

Answer: "No, of course not. On the contrary, it rather strengthens their cooperation."

Question: But why did Erdogan make such a move?

"Obviously, he fears the development of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which is becoming more and more widespread. We see how the process of regionalization of this confrontation is beginning. And a new situation in the bloc is gradually emerging.

And Turkey, in this case, understands that it cannot now join a new alliance involving the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Russia and possibly Iran - it is not invited there.
But it is breaking away from the NATO bloc, and for it it is dangerous. Because it can destabilize the country. And it will then start to fragment.

Erdogan understands this. That's why he decided to be smart and went to Athens, where he signed a declaration similar to the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne, which defined the status of Turkey after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire."

Question: But, as you know, Turkey and Greece have serious differences.

Answer: "Yes, there are problems with the Imia islands in the Aegean Sea, as well as with the development of the Mediterranean continental shelf. But these agreements seem to remove all the problems. In this context, Perichenk's statement sounds naturally anomalous.

But it seems to reflect certain sentiments within Turkey's ruling class.

Namely, those representatives who believe that Ankara must define its place in the new world order emerging in the Middle East, and that its participation in old alliances is futile.

However, judging by the way things are going, the old, NATO party is winning in Turkey.

We can see this in the example of Greek-Turkish relations. In this context, I think, the statement of the leader of the Turkish "motherland" should be taken into account.

Let me stress once again, it is perceived as an anomaly, but, at the same time, it demonstrates the sharpening of contradictions within the ruling class."

The anti-NATO faction calls for the expulsion of the two NATO bases in the country

The leader of the Turkish Motherland Party, Dogu Peritsenk, called for the withdrawal of the US military from the Inchirlik-Kiurechik bases, describing it as a historical necessity.
In his opinion, the control of the base should be exercised only by Turkey.

The politician recalled that his party has been fighting for the closure of the US air base for more than 60 years, but at the moment the issue has become "more timely and powerful" due to the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

"I recently stated that US military aircraft taking off from the Inchirlik base land at the Akrotiri base in Cyprus and from there the necessary weapons are delivered to Israel," Perichenk said.

He believes that the government should ensure that the air base is used only by the Turkish Air Force, being under the full control of Ankara.

"We call for the complete withdrawal of US troops from the base; they should pack their bags and return home. ... we entered this historical cycle when this becomes a necessity. This is a security issue for Turkey," the Turkish politician said.

"The base in Kıurecık now protects not only Israel, but also NATO and its owner, the United States, which has repeatedly attacked Turkey.

This base is seen as a thorn in Turkey's side. The so-called defenders of Palestine and the so-called loyal Muslims who follow the US policy should be well aware that the Qurechik base is a betrayal not only for Palestine and Asia, but also for Turkey!" said Turkish expert Serdar Alitsavusoglu.

In an interview with a Turkish media outlet, Admiral Ea, Turker Ertürk, said that "Greece cornered us, defeated us in the brawl," adding "You should know that we surrendered. The economy went bankrupt. The country was isolated. We have to make some moves. We really surrendered. If we are talking about defiance, Greece of 10 million people beat us in defiance. Where is the Blue Homeland?"

These statements and moves show that within Turkey they have an orientation problem which is exacerbated by the economic crisis, the embargo on the Turkish defense industry, etc. This conflict is purely internal and for now the pro-Westerners are winning, but we don't know for how much longer.
